The problematic and contradictory relationship between the art of Italian painter, sculptor and muralist Corrado Cagli and the fascist government that supported him will be explored in an upcoming presentation by Penn State Laureate John Champagne. He is scheduled to speak at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, in Hiller Auditorium at Penn State DuBois. It is free and open to the public.
Distinguished Professor of English Emeritus Richard Kopley new book, "Kenny and the Blue Sky," will be released on June 15. "Blue Sky" follows Kenny, a young boy who dreams of being able to reach, touch and be in the sky. Through the wonder of a child's view, the sky lowers itself one afternoon, allowing Kenny and his family and friends to experience the sky as no one else ever has.
The Penn State DuBois Alumni Society will host "A Night in the Wilds" from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at the Elk Country Visitor Center in Benezette, Pennsylvania. All members of the public are invited to attend and take the opportunity to become familiar with what the center has to offer.
Penn State DuBois invites anyone who loves to draw or those who would like to learn how to draw to take part in its Aspiring Artist Series of classes. Professional artist Christion Iraca will provide individualized instruction and guidance to students who want to learn more about the techniques that help create realistic portraits.
This summer, the Penn State DuBois Arts, Science and Technology Institute will offer seven youth camps during the weeks of June 12-16, and June 19-23, 2017, for students entering grades 7 - 12. The courses focus on theatre, fly fishing and fly tying, perfume making, forensics and mock trial, mosaic art, wild turkey, teen entrepreneur, and music making on an iPad.
The primary goal of the Penn State DuBois Summer Youth program is to provide challenging, educational activities for students of various grade levels.
A group of young musicians rallied together For the Kids at one local community's center for the arts. Music Fest was held at the Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre (CAST) on Saturday, Nov. 19. The event featured popular local bands Twin Reverb and Mutual Friends, as well as other entertainers including Penn State DuBois students. It was organized by Penn State DuBois THON Committee member Alaina Shaffer.
Lehigh Valley professor Barbara Cantalupo and DuBois Professor Emeritus Richard Kopley are notable Edgar Allan Poe scholars, longtime colleagues and friends. Their most recent collaboration, the fourth International Edgar Allan Poe Conference, was more than two years in the making.
